Three Counties Pekingese & Cavalier Society

Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

It was a privilege to judge at the Three Counties Pekingese and Cavalier Society open show,  such a staple in the toy dog show calendar.  My sincere thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge, and to my steward, Mark, who kept the ring running seamlessly.

Veteran Dog (2, 1a)

• 1st: Bloomfield's DELHAZE REACH FOR THE SKY WITH OAKLAKE JW

An 8 year old Blenheim gentleman. He carries a beautifully masculine head, pretty still and with no coarseness, excellent angulation throughout, and a level topline. Presented in great coat with lovely feathering. Thoroughly enjoying his day out. Best Veteran, and I was absolutely delighted to see him later awarded Reserve Best Veteran in Show.

Puppy Dog (2, 1a)

• 1st: Homes' LEOGEM MELODIC GRAFFITI

A captivating 7 month old Blenheim little man, and what an amazing prospect he is! I was utterly taken with him. He possesses the most beautiful, melting head that remains completely masculine. Everything is in the right place in moderation. He moved wonderfully—though still in his raw puppyhood, he has plenty of time on his side. He carries a wealth of puppy coat with his rich chestnut colouring breaking through beautifully. Slight arch to his neck and good depth of chest. A very bright future awaits; I will watch him with interest. Best Puppy Dog & Best Puppy, delighted to see him later awarded Reserve Best Puppy in Show.

Graduate Dog (2, 1a)

• 1st: Bloomfield's OAKLAKE LIMITLESS

A 2 year old Tricolour boy boasting a nice, typical head. He held his topline beautifully both when standing and on the move. He carries a blanketed coat of a lovely silky texture, though I would personally prefer slightly more broken markings. A wonderfully happy, animated boy who was full of life and thoroughly enjoying his day.

Post Graduate Dog (1, 0)

• 1st: Surman's CHARNELL GO YOUR OWN WAY TO VALLENDER

An 18 month old Blenheim boy of a slightly larger mould, but I loved how completely in proportion and balanced he was. He has the most beautiful, large, soulful eyes that are so typical of his breeding. Lots of silky coat with lovely feathering. Well angulated throughout, he moved soundly, holding his level topline perfectly both standing and on the move. Excellent dentition. Reserve Best Dog (RBD).

• 1st: Homes' LEOGEM MELODY MAKER

A 2 year old boy who was presented to absolute perfection. Well angulated front and rear. Lovely silky coat. His ears are set high on a textbook flat skull, framing his face beautifully. He has a nice reach of neck, and a good tail set. He moved well but just lacked a little animation today; on another day, I am certain he would have pushed the winners hard.

• 1st: Williams' CHARNELL THE RENEGADE SANCANA JW ShCEx OSW

A 2 and a half year old boy, and my word, what a boy! I was delighted to finally put my hands on him and he simply confirmed all that I suspected from ringside. He is quite simply magnificent all over. He possesses a uniquely pretty yet completely masculine head, enhanced by large, dark, melting eyes so typical of the breed. High-set ears sit perfectly on a flat skull, and he has excellent dentition. Everything about him is exactly where it should be—utterly moderate, balanced, and he moves like an absolute dream. Intensely attentive to his handler and presented to perfection. Over the moon to award him Best Dog, Best of Breed, and thrilled to watch him fly all the way to Best in Show!

Puppy Bitch (4, 0)

• 1st: Lewis' CARLEETO GINGER ROGERS

An 8 month old Ruby girl. She is still very raw, but time is entirely on her side. There is simply no denying how beautifully put together she is. A very pretty head leads into a lovely, elegant neck. She held her level topline, leading into a well-set tail and excellent spring of rib. Her rich chestnut coat is coming along beautifully. Still very much a baby, but there is so much to admire. Loved her sweet temperament, beautifully presented. Best Puppy Bitch.

• 2nd: Surman's CARLEETO BEWITCHED VALLENDER

An 8 month old Black and Tan girl, litter sister to the winner, and much of the same applies. Still raw but with a bright future ahead. She is very pretty and a touch more petite than her sister. Moved well. Rich tan markings in all the correct places. Enjoying her day out immensely.

Junior Bitch (3, 2a)

• 1st: Riis-White's CERNEYLEAZE LILLIBRIDGE

A 16 month old Tricolour bitch who was beautifully presented and inherently pretty. She has large, dark eyes with lovely dark pigment and perfectly placed, well-feathered ears set high on a flat skull. She maintained a level topline throughout, showing good angulation both front and rear. Moved soundly and was remarkably attentive to her handler.

• 1st: Lewis' CARLEETO RED VELVET JW

A 2 year old Ruby girl displaying lovely, balanced proportions. She possesses good, dark pigment, a really pretty head, and correct dentition. She moved nicely around the ring, displaying a true tail set and correct carriage. I liked her a great deal. Reserve Best Bitch (RBB).

• 2nd: As above class.

Post Graduate Bitch (2, 0)

• 1st: Lewis' CARLEETO BLACK VELVET JW

A 2 year old Black and Tan girl with an incredibly sweet, pretty head. She carries clean, correct tan markings in all the right places, enhanced by excellent dark pigment. Well angulated throughout with a level topline and a well set tail, which she carried perfectly on the move.

• 2nd: Dawidowska's EMIRA SYLENA (IMP POL)

A 2.5 year old Blenheim girl who was beautifully presented in a well-broken, silky coat. She moved well, although she was a little too proud of her tail carriage today. I would also have preferred a slightly darker eye to soften her expression.

Limit Bitch (1,0)

• 1st: Surman's HARANA C'EST SI BON

A 3 year old Ruby girl with lovely, expressive eyes and a very pretty head. She is of a slightly larger type than I was looking for today, but she excels in rich pigment and a beautiful, vibrant chestnut coat that was presented beautifully. She moved well, maintaining a level topline both standing and on the move.

Open Bitch (3, 2a)

• 1st: Lewis' CARLEETO MINNIE THE MINX JW

A 4 year old Black and Tan, and what a captivating little minx she is! Immaculately presented, gleaming silky coat adorned with plenty of feathering. Her head is beautiful: a flat skull with long, well-feathered ears set high, and a correct scissor bite. Her movement was lovely and true with plenty of drive from the rear. I liked her a lot. Best Bitch (BB)
