Bridgwater & District Canine Society

Breed: Retriever (Golden)

Critiques Retriever (Golden) for Bridgwater and District Canine Society 22nd March 2026

Class 237 – Puppy (4 entries, 3 absent)

1st – Northmore’s Pennbeacon Oh No Not Susan – 11month old bitch, well matured and developed for age, despite standing alone she really stood out with good breed type and a pleasing and balanced profile. Lovely feminine head with typical expression and kind eye. Straight front legs with tight catlike feet. Good forechest and balanced angulation front and back. Short coupled. Well presented in good golden coat. Solid level topline maintained on the move into a nice tailset. Moved with drive with a bright typical attitude. Excited to see how she progresses in her career. BPIB and proud to award her RBOB in a lovely line up. I was pleased to see her go PG1 and Best Reserve Best of Breed in Group.

Class 238 – Special Yearling (9 entries, 3 absent)

1st – Hurrell’s Kadaka King of Clay – 20month old dog shown in plentiful golden coat and muscular condition. Nice masculine head developing well for his age. Good forechest and front with straight legs onto tight feet. Well laid back shoulders with good spring of rib. Short coupled with nice rear angulation and tailset. Moved out well.

2nd – Hewitson’s Seruilia Society Girl – 17month old bitch, shame to come up against 1 today as I just preferred the overall balance of him. Heavier build than 1 and slightly longer but still in good balance and proportion. Nice head into strong neck and well laid back shoulders. Preferred her front to 1. Good stifle angulation and well let down straight hocks. Not as much drive on the move as 1 but striding out well. Coat still returning at the moment which also affected the overall picture for her.

3rd – Richardson’s Stormhayes Splendidly Chic

Class 239 – Post Graduate (5 entries, 1 absent)

1st – Hurrell’s Klassical Legacy From Double Gold Among Gillansgold (Imp NLD) - a dog I have admired for some time. 3 year old with good maturity and well presented with a straight gold coat. Well chiselled masculine head with good neck. Short coupled. Good angulation. Would prefer a little move forechest. Lovely level topline and tailset maintained on the move. Lovely drive and attitude on the move.

2nd – Hewitson’s Seruilia Society Girl – as in Special Yearling

3rd – Fenn’s Fulvia Just Magic At Jandeburn

Class 240 – Open Dog (5 entries, 3 absent)

1st – Fenn’s Chalksville Highlander At Jandeburn – 7 year old dog, tough class between the two but preferred the topline and front of 1. Lovely masculine head into good lay of shoulder. Straight legs with good angulation. Shorter coupled and good balance overall. Moves with great drive and doesn’t show his age at all. Shown in rich gold coat just finishing the picture for him.

2nd – Hurrell’s Kadaka Kaos at Gillansgold – difficult to come against 1 today. Nice masculine head flowing into good neck and shoulder. Good angulation fore and rear, level topline and good tailset. Slightly longer in body.

Class 241 – Open Bitch (5 entries, 3 absent)

1st – Collis’s Tillsun Mistletoe Promises – 2 and a half year old bitch that caught my eye instantly, Super topline well maintained on the move into good tailset. Lovely feminine head with kind eye and expression. Lovely forechest, slightly wider in front than 2. Short coupled, well balanced with good stifle angulation. Shown in hard muscular condition and lovely pale golden coat. Moves with great drive and definitely showed as the most fit for function today which ultimately gave her Best of Breed. I was glad to see she was shortlisted in a lovely group.

2nd – Hewitson’s Seruilia Society Girl - as in Special Yearling
