I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge. My sincere thanks also go to my steward, Miss Jenna Ferry, who kept everything running smoothly throughout the day. Finally, I would like to thank all the exhibitors for their entries and for allowing me the privilege of judging such a high-quality collection of exhibits.

Hungarian Vizsla  

PD – (1) 

1st Eames – Vadkartya’s Arkle 

Russet Gold, 6 months old, nicely balanced and well proportioned. Clean neck and well-carried head, with a pleasing head, square muzzle and good broad chest. Nice depth of chest with a slight tuck-up and lovely cat feet. Moved well behind. A very promising puppy.

JD – (1) 

1st Petitclerc – Listerlo Amber Management   

Russet Gold, 16 months old, with a well-balanced outline and level back. Well ribbed, with a straight front, good bone and lovely cat feet. Nice forechest, good neck and shoulders, with a noble, clean head. Moved freely and well. Presented in good condition.

OD – (1) 

1st Credland & Sutherland – Carnlochan Thriller (AI) 

Russet Gold, 2 years old, with a noble, well-carried head and correct scissor bite. Straight front, well-knit feet, good forechest and brisket, with strong, muscular quarters. Well-proportioned head with long, thin, well-set ears. Moved freely and confidently. Presented in super condition. Reserve Best of Breed.

PB – (1) 

1st Grigonyte – Dulceduces Fruzsina Jasmin  

Russet Gold, 11 months old, a quality feminine bitch, strong in body properties with a good spring of rib and pleasing overall outline. Well-constructed body, feminine head and lovely eyes, with a good scissor bite. Moved very well and gracefully around the ring. Presented in excellent condition. Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed.

JB – (1) 

1st Eames – Vadkartya’s Secretariat 

Russet Gold, 6 months old, with a well-made head, good ear carriage and well-let-down quarters. Pleasing head and expression. Just needs to body up to complete the picture, but she needs more time and has plenty of time to mature. A promising puppy, shown and presented in good condition.

OB – (4) 

1st Grigonyte – LT CH Nadorpusztai Fuvola (IMP HUN) 

Russet Gold, 5 years old, with a pleasing overall outline, good bone, legs and feet. Strong neck and well-laid shoulders, with muscular, well-defined quarters. Nice head and expression. Stylish and moved soundly. Presented in good condition.

2nd Credland & Sutherland – INT/BEL CH Limited Edition Magyar-Tim At Carnlochan (IMP POL) 

Russet Gold, almost 5 years old, a pleasing type with a good overall outline. Today, however, lacked the body and substance of the winner and was not quite as positive on the move. A lovely dog who was just not at his best today.

3rd Eames – Roxombury Stevie Nicks For Vadkartya  

Irish Setter. 

1st PGB – Maple – Pollnac New Miracle  

4 years old, a very feminine and well-balanced bitch with a lovely, sweet head and expression. Low-set ears, good topline held well on the move, good depth of chest and nicely sprung ribs. Good length and bend of stifle. Moved very well and was presented in super condition. Stood alone, but a very worthy winner. Best of Breed.

1st Woodhams – Flatcharm Mr Potato Head 

13 months old. Nicely constructed young dog with good, clean lines and a masculine head. Good scissor bite, well boned with sound movement. Presented in superb condition.

1st Bowen – Clandrift Make It Funky JW

19 months old. Quality dog who stood out for type, conformation and superb, sound movement. Lovely dog, one I previously judged as a puppy, and I see he has now gained his Junior Warrant. Presented in tip-top condition.

2nd Parmee – Everblack Enjoying Life

2 years old. Good-bodied dog with pleasing conformation and sound movement. A lovely temperament. I just preferred the overall outline of the winner.

OD – (1) 

1st Woodhams – Kulawand Casanova  

3½ years old. Racy, active dog with a clean outline and quality skull. Good body and superb on the move, a lovely mover with sound, positive movement. Presented in lovely condition. I was pleased to award him Reserve Best of Breed.

PGB – (3) Abs: 1

1st Bowen – Clandrift Funky Angel JW 

19 months old. Quality, feminine bitch, another I previously judged as a puppy and litter sister to the Junior Dog winner. I see she has also gained her Junior Warrant. An absolutely sound bitch who caught my eye the moment she entered the ring. Beautifully feminine with excellent type and lovely quality. She shows with drive and style and was presented in excellent condition. Pleased to award her Best of Breed.

2nd Smith – Esined Double Delight  

5 years old. Another good-type, feminine bitch with lots to like. Moved soundly, but just needed to give that little bit more and lacked the sparkle of the winner. Presented in lovely condition.

Retriever (Golden)  

JD – (1) 

1st Dyer & Appleyard-Dyer – Adore Henry Warrior King 

14 months old, good head and reach of neck from well-placed shoulders. Short-coupled, well up on pasterns, moved well and has plenty of potential for further development. Shown in good condition.

1st Linfield – Tonara Yellowstone JW 

2¾ years old, well-balanced dog with a fine but masculine head. Good angulation, with body proportions just right. Very well-rounded stifles, good sound thigh and nicely shaped feet. Nice coat in good condition. Moved soundly and was well presented.

2nd Dyer & Appleyard-Dyer – Altamont High Hopes 

2¾ years old, another of pleasing type, but today his movement was not quite as good as the winner. Good presentation and coat in nice condition.

OD – (2) 

1st Gulliver – Tonara Moon Walk  

5 years old, well-balanced dog with a pleasing head and good reach of neck. Good scissor bite, well-placed shoulders, short-coupled and well up on pasterns. Moved well and was very much at one with his handler. Shown in good condition.

2nd Worsfold & Moriarty – Sybiton Saved By The Bell  

2 years old, very similar all round to 1st, but not quite as showy on the day. Just needs more training, as he seemed unsure of what was expected of him. Lovely temperament.

JB – (3) Abs: 1 

1st Riley – Strettonhills Quevega 

13 months old, balanced head, dark eyes, good neck and shoulders, giving a clean, flowing line from head to tail. Deep body, well-angulated quarters, level topline, well-boned legs, neat feet and a nice turn of stifle. Good, happy mover. Quality bitch, presented in super coat and excellent condition. Best of Breed.

2nd Taylor & Teen – Strettonhills Bees Knees   

13 months old, litter mate to the winner, but appeared to have recently suffered some kind of injury. Moved well and was very similar in type and size.

 Black, 9 months old, with a masculine head, correct scissor bite and a good neck. Lovely outline and a good mover. Presented in lovely condition at his first show, and handled very well. Best Puppy In Breed.

1st Newman – Creamwood Silver Hawthorn   

Yellow, 5 years old, with a very nice masculine head and expression, good neck and strong quarters. Moved soundly and looked the part. Presented in lovely condition. Reserve Best of Breed.

JB (2) 

1st Dunsford – Tumbledown Yours Forever 

Black, 13 months old, a quality feminine bitch, very well structured and well made. Good neck and front, excellent body and strong quarters. Moved soundly and freely, with lovely round, compact feet. Presented in super condition.

2nd Stringer – Tumbledown Yours Truly     

Chocolate, 13 months old, litter sister to the winner. Another lovely bitch with a beautiful overall outline. Needs to become more accustomed to being handled and gain confidence, but presented in good condition. I am sure the more she attends shows, the more confident and successful she will become in the ring.

Yellow, 2 years old, a quality mature bitch and a confident, free-moving show girl. Very well constructed and stood out in today’s entry. Lovely breed type, feminine head, super outline and an excellent free mover. Presented in great condition. A very worthy Best of Breed.

1st Maynard – Ziggypaws Starcruzin  

Lemon & White, 16 months old. Quality throughout this lovely young boy. Good length of back with a level topline, lovely straight front, and excellent overall balance. Moved really well, driving strongly from behind with powerful hindquarters. Presented in lovely condition and a credit to his owner. Reserve Best of Breed.

1st Benge – Wahnahnish Saint Gilles JW (IMP NLD)

Orange & White, 2½ years old. Very nice, well-balanced dog with pleasing bone and good substance. Looked particularly good standing, with a lovely head, good stop, clean eyes and well-placed ears. Moved soundly and was presented in nice condition.

PB – (1)  

1st Benge – Bona Fama Kaprys Rejenta At Benginger (IMP POL)  

Orange & White, 9 months old. This lovely puppy came into the ring and looked the business. Well boned with a good front and powerful, driving hindquarters. Lovely overall balance and construction, all complemented by a cheerful, outgoing personality. Presented in super condition and thoroughly deserving of Best Puppy In Breed.

1st Wilson – Vanitonia Strike A Pose At Winhampton

Lemon & White, 8½ months old. This young bitch looked very nice standing, with plenty to like. Unfortunately, she was quite unsettled in the ring, which made her difficult to assess fully. Once settled, she showed that she could move well, although she would benefit from more practice and experience in the show ring.

1st Sainsbury – Elskerwoo Silver Lining    

Orange & White, 2 years old. Quality, feminine bitch with good overall proportions. Lovely head with a soft expression, correct eye shape and good colour. Good bone throughout with strong feet and a good front. Level topline both standing and on the move. Moved soundly and was presented in lovely condition.

1st Sainsbury – Elskerwoo Cloudy Skies JW 

Orange & White, 2 years old. Quality bitch who impressed me greatly on going over her. More solid and better boned than some, with good substance throughout. Moved very well, maintaining a lovely level topline. Standing, she showed off her good quarters, good reach of neck and excellent overall qualities. Presented in excellent condition and thoroughly deserving of Best of Breed.

2nd Wilson – Vanitonia Some Like It Hot At Winhampton  

Lemon & White, 3 years old. Another nice, feminine bitch with a pleasing body and lovely overall femininity. Super bend of stifle and plenty to like. Unfortunately, she just lost out today on movement, but was presented in super condition.

Liver & White, 2 years old. Pleasing head and expression, good reach of neck into well-placed shoulders. Good bone and well-shaped feet. Deep body with good overall proportions. Moved soundly and was very well presented.

PGB – (2) 

1st Turvey & Murray – Meonstoke Wild Cherry At Harvancourt 

Liver & White, 2 years old. Lovely young bitch with a super profile, good dark eyes and good reach of neck. Compact body with good depth of rib, carrying just the right amount of weight. Well-furnished bitch, beautifully turned out in lovely coat. Moved soundly with a level topline. I was delighted to award her Best of Breed.

2nd Taubman – Meonstoke Wild Thyme IR JCH 

Liver & White, 2 years old, litter sister to the winner. Compact body, well angulated with good length. Moved well, but was carrying slightly too much weight, which unfortunately detracted from her overall outline.

1st Taubman – IR SH CH Meltarose Madeleine At Meonstoke 

Liver & White, 6 years old. Very attractive bitch with real quality about her. I understand she has gained her Irish Crown, which is a lovely achievement. Very pleasing bitch to go over and nicely presented. She clearly enjoyed her time in the ring today. I was pleased to award her Reserve Best of Breed.

Liver, 3½ years old. Lovely head with good length of foreface, long reach of neck into well-laid shoulders and nice depth of chest. Well balanced throughout, with firm quarters and neat feet. Stylish and a good mover. A very pleasing exhibit and worthy Reserve Best of Breed.

Liver, 7 months old. Beautiful head, with very good reach of neck into well-laid shoulders. Level topline, good turn of stifle, good bone and feet. Well balanced throughout and moved very well. Presented in super condition.

Liver, 14 months old. Well balanced throughout, with a lovely head, good eyes and expression. Nice reach of neck into well-laid shoulders, level topline and a nice turn of stifle. Good tailset and neat feet. Moved very soundly and had a lovely temperament. A very pleasing young bitch who won on maturity.

Liver, 7 months old. Litter mate to the Puppy Winner. A quality young puppy with a good head and expression, good reach of neck and correct layback of shoulders. Level topline, good length of body and well-angulated hindquarters. A sound, happy mover, presented in super condition. A lovely young puppy and a worthy Best Puppy in Breed.

 White with Brown Markings, 17 months old. I loved the shape of this dog, with a good head and correct scissor bite, a nice big nose, balanced front and rear angulation, strong bone and good chest depth. Strong topline and very well presented. I was very pleased to award him Best of Breed.

Black with white markings, 3 years old. Liked her head and ear set, good front and strong overall balance. Moved well with good drive. Presented in nice condition. I just preferred the overall balance of the previous class, but I was pleased to award her Reserve Best of Breed.

Tricolour, 10 months old, a quality youngster, quite mature for her age, with a lovely outline and correct head. Deep lip, dark eyes and good length of neck. Neat front, good ribcage carried well back and a strong topline. Neat quarters with well-pouched hocks. Moved well and showed herself to great advantage. Best of Breed & Best Puppy in Breed.

Black & Tan, 3 years old. Masculine head with a broad skull and well-filled muzzle. Good chest, strong neck and back, with correct proportions and excellent overall balance. His movement was a joy to watch. Reserve Best of Breed.

PB (2)   

1st Ellis – Lounatuuli Aurora Lumonova 

 Cream, 10 months old. Correct feminine head of good proportions, with a broad skull. Neck of good length, with a lovely overall outline. Her movement and profile gave her the edge over her litter mate. Presented in good condition. Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Ellis & Crosby – Lounatuuli Aurora Lyyra 

Cream, 10 months old. Litter mate to the previous bitch and another pleasing youngster. Not quite as mature as her sister at present, but she just needs more time to develop. Good neck and shoulders, with a pleasing overall balance. Presented in nice condition.

Black & Tan, 4½ years old. Quality, feminine and well-balanced head, with good ears and expression. Presents a lovely overall profile, with a beautiful coat over a well-constructed body. Ideal size and moved soundly. She stood out in today’s lovely entry and certainly demands your attention. Presented in super condition. Best of Breed.

2nd Ellis & Crosby – Tabanyaruu Borealis Bliz 

  Black & Tan, 4 years old. Unfortunately, she was out of coat today and carrying slightly more weight than ideal. Dam of a lovely puppy-class youngster, and clearly not just a show girl, which perhaps explains the shorter cut. Despite this, she remains a pleasing bitch with many good qualities.

Black, 4 years old, with a pleasing head without being overdone in any way, well balanced in muzzle and with dark eyes. Clean front and nice shoulders. Moved well, light and spirited, and was presented in good condition. Best of Breed.

Black & Tan, 22 months old, well proportioned with a strong, masculine head. Well-balanced body, good coat and presented in excellent condition. Good tail set, moved with drive from firm hindquarters. Reserve Best of Breed.

1st Felstead – Oreiphos Ease My Heart At Foveaux  

Black & Tan, 16 months old, a quality bitch of correct size and proportions, with a lovely feminine head and neck and an excellent front. Glossy black coat with well-defined markings. Covered the ground well on the move and presented in super condition. This was the first of two classes she won on the day, going on to gain her Junior Warrant (JW).

Just turned 12 months old and a lovely size, with a correct head, dark eyes and small, tight ears, which he used well. Good reach of neck, strong shoulders, enough bone and a well-ribbed body. Moved freely and confidently. Best of Breed.

4 years old, nicely bodied with firm quarters and a straight front. Correct shape and presented in lovely condition. Needs to handle better on the table. Moved soundly once she settled. Reserve Best of Breed.

Tan & White, 19 months old, a nice size with a good head and lovely eyes. Pleased with the coat, bone, feet and hind legs. Nice mover, well muscled and presented in good condition.

Tan & White, 2 years old, nicely constructed and well balanced, with a lean shoulder, easily spanned ribcage, strong loin and good hind leg. Very nice head of good proportions, with a good scissor bite and large teeth. Tough coat. Free-striding and moved soundly. Best of Breed.

Tan & White, almost 12 months old, a very promising feminine puppy of ideal size, with good construction and balance. Good shoulders, plenty of bone and a good hind leg. Nice flat skull, well-made foreface and strong underjaw, with good, large teeth. Keen, intelligent eyes. Easily spanned and a super mover. Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Broadbridge – Chadbrook Caravaggio At Brokus  

Tan & White, 6 months old, another very nice puppy, good overall and with plenty to like. Lacked the confidence of the winner today and needs to become more at one with her handler. She has plenty of time on her side and just needs more practice and experience. Shown in good condition.

1st Shakesshaft, McClluskey & Young – Bardrain’s Lady Of Chadbrook 

Tan & White, 19 months old, nicely hard coated and well constructed, with correct bone and good feet. Well-made body and quarters, with good hind legs. Very nice head, good eyes and teeth. Well muscled and moved with a good stride, soundly and confidently.

2nd Woods & Boorman – Wayward Talia 

Tan & White, 2 years old, another nice one with plenty to like. Needs a little more time to mature and develop, and was not quite as good in movement as the winner today. Presented in very nice condition.

Tan & White, 3 years old, a smart little bitch, easily spanned and hard coated. Very nice, well-made head with good eyes and mouth. Very well proportioned and balanced, lean with well-laid shoulders and a strong loin. Moves true coming and going. Shown in super condition. Reserve Best of Breed.

Almost 2 years old, White with Black markings, with a correct, well-balanced head, good neck and shoulders, and good pigmentation. Good length of back, with the tail set bang on top. Moved well both fore and aft. Reserve Best of Breed.

7 months old, Champagne, a lovely puppy with a beautiful head and ears and a very good mouth. Good body and coat, moved and showed well, and presented in good condition. Stood alone but a worthy winner. Best Puppy in Breed.

4 years old, White with Tan markings, an alert and fearless bitch of excellent type and conformation. Clean, well-made head with a good scissor bite and large teeth. Good neck and shoulders, well-made body and excellent hard coat. Moved well with brisk, lively action. Presented in superb condition. Best of Breed, and thrilled to see her go on to win the Terrier Group.

Red & White, 4½ years old. A quality dog from the top drawer, with a massive skull, good underjaw, neat ears and good, dark eyes. Well boned throughout, finishing in good feet, with an excellent overall body shape. Presented in excellent condition and moved very well. A quality exhibit, and a worthy Best of Breed.

Red & White, 2 years old. A lovely, shapely bitch with a good lay of shoulder, strong bone and nice feet. Good, typy head with a pleasing expression. Moved soundly and was a very pleasing exhibit.

Red & White, almost 3 years old. A lovely feminine head with a wide, well-turned underjaw and wide-open nostrils. Nice, shapely body with good, strong bone. Moved soundly and presented well. A very pleasing bitch and worthy Reserve Best of Breed.

PD Entries: 3 

1st Hisscock’s: - Jacquinta Black At Ya With Shidizzle. 

7 months old, A lovely black male with a good-quality coat of correct texture. Very good headpiece, with dark eyes and a correct mouth with excellent dentition. Strong neck leading into decent shoulders, with good width throughout and good length of rib. Short loin and level topline, with correct tail carriage. Moved well. Just needs to settle, but he is still very much a baby. BPD.

2nd Francis: - Ethelsmead Friendly Ghost.

Black & White, 9 months old. Another lovely male with a nice head, dark eyes, good nose placement and good width to jaw. Nice neck, with good shoulders. Good depth and width of body, with correct tail set. Moved well. I just preferred the size and shape of the first.

3rd Turner’s: - Tameron Mr Azzaro For Charonnis.

1st Salt’s: - Keola On The Road Again.

Gold & White, at just over 14 months old, this male has a lot to like about him. I loved his headpiece, with dark, round eyes, a wide jaw and correct dentition. Gold & White, Just turned 18 months old. This boy has a good headpiece, with round eyes set well apart and correct nose placement. Strong neck leading into okay shoulders, with good length of rib and a deep chest. Nice tail set. Moves with good drive from the rear, although the front could be a little tighter.

Gold Brindle, 2 years Old. A nice male with a good headpiece, dark eyes, good nose placement and correct dentition. Okay length of neck leading into okay shoulder placement, with decent length of rib and a short loin. Good rear drive. I preferred the front assembly of my class winner. RBD.

1st Sullivan’s: - Jacquinta Moonlight Shadow.

Solid Black, almost 8 months old. Such a beautiful puppy, true quality in every way. Gorgeous headpiece, with large, round, dark eyes set wide apart, correct nose placement and lovely open nostrils. Wide jaw with full, correct dentition. Good, strong neck leading into a good lay of shoulder, with good depth of chest and a good topline. Correct tail set and carriage. Moved with good reach and drive. It was a very close decision between her and my BOB winner, but maturity won through on the day. I am sure this girl has a very bright future ahead of her. BPIB, BB, RBOB.

2nd Barrell’s: - Shenleyvale Behind Orange Eyes. 

Gold & White, Just turned 9 months old. A different type from the first, this girl has a good head with dark eyes and a good mouth. Nice neck leading into good shoulders, with a level topline and good tail set. Moved well from the rear.

Gold & White, just turned 12 months old. So beautiful. A very exquisite bitch with a soft, sweet face, dark, round eyes, a beautiful mouth and excellent dentition. Good nose placement, nice lay of shoulder, level topline and good tail set. Moved beautifully around the ring, showing plenty of pad.

Gold & white, 20 months old. Another very pretty bitch, with dark, round eyes, a good mouth and a nice lay of shoulder. Good length of neck, although a tad long in body. Decent bend of stifle. I would have preferred a better tail set and carriage. Moved well around the ring.

3 years old, A very pretty black bitch with a beautiful expression and the darkest of eyes. Good nose placement with lovely open nostrils, correct mouth and dentition. Strong neck leading into okay shoulders, with good depth of chest, although I would have preferred a better-shaped rib cage. Level topline, good tail set and carriage. Moved freely around the ring, both fore and aft. I later found out that my BP and RBOB winner was her daughter, which was a lovely surprise.

Gold Brindle, 3 ½ years old. A very pretty bitch, another with an exquisite expression. Good-shaped head, dark, round eyes, correct nose placement and good dentition. Nice neck leading into a good lay of shoulder, with nice length of rib, a level topline and strong muscle throughout. Nice size and shape with correct tail carriage. A little close behind, but moved freely both fore and aft.

Light Red & White, 22 months old. I previously judged this boy as a puppy and awarded him top honours, so it was lovely to see that he has now gained his Junior Warrant. Quality masculine head with a foxy expression. Well put together with good angulation fore and aft. Moved very well. Pleased to award him Reserve Best of Breed.

Grey & White, 2 years old. Pleasing dog, presented in great condition on the day. Nice, attractive foxy head and a good overall build with moderate bone and sufficient leg length. Good topline and a sound mover. In full coat and presented in super condition.

2nd Simms – Can/AM Ch Snowmist’s I Am Canadian Eh (IMP CAN) TAF 

Grey & White, 16 months old. Nice type with a masculine head. Moved the best in the class, but sadly was completely out of coat and condition on the day. I’m sure he will look much more the part when back in full coat and condition.

Grey & White, 10 months old. Excellent quality with a lovely feminine, foxy head, beautiful almond-shaped eyes and a lovely high earset. Nice crested neck leading into well-laid shoulders, with super hindquarters. Her movement is excellent, and she was turned out in good condition. So much quality and style in this young bitch, beautifully handled by her very young handler. Pleased to award her Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Wilson & Lampen – Howlvalley’s Dance Baby At Rosco   

Grey & White, 6 months old. Lovely type with a pleasing head, good earset and foxy expression. Nice crested neck leading into well-laid shoulders. Well-proportioned body, good tailset and croup. Moved really well, just lacking the maturity of the winner, but she has plenty of time to develop and finish.
