Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge Clumbers, Fields and Sussex Spaniels at this well organised and welcoming show. Thanks too to my stewards Gavin and Hazel who kept everything flowing nicely.

The hot weather forecast obviously impacted on attendance but nevertheless I had some lovely dogs to go over.

1st Riley’s C’Herry Loou U Blondy Star MIA EMERALDGLEN

Stood alone today but that did not distract from her being a quality puppy. At 6 months old and at her first show she was totally in tune with her handler and was very steady to go over for one so young. She is balanced and well boned with a feminine head and has a lovely expression, a kind eye and well-placed and shaped ears. Strong neck and shoulders with a straight front and large feet. Well sprung ribs. Movement when settled was good with a level topline. Wagging tail throughout showed she was certainly enjoying herself! Shown in lovely condition and sympathetically handled throughout. BOB, BPIB.

1st Murray & Hird’s Sonnetend Money for Nothing

14-month-old liver bitch with a lovely feminine head and expression, good length and strength to neck, well laid shoulders and good bone. She has a super profile. She has lovely almond shaped eyes which could just be a little darker to complete the picture. She has a good lay of shoulders and depth to chest. Shown in good coat and condition. Beautifully handled; she moved well with a level topline and lively tail action.

1st Stone’s Sonnetend Brothers in Arms JW

14-month-old male who really caught my eye. He has a super flat, glossy coat and is shown in great condition; he was gleaming in the sun. Lovely, chiseled head and expression with almond shaped dark eyes and low set ears, good length of neck and well-placed shoulders. His chest has good depth and he has the correct length of rib. He has strong hindquarters and moderate stifles. The best mover today; he powered around the ring with the correct tail carriage and lively action. Happy to award him BOB.

2nd Adam, Lewis, Lewis & Hird’s Sonnetend Tailor Made for Irisbel

Just over 2-year-old bitch and another with a super coat and in lovely condition. Smaller frame than 1st but balanced throughout. She has a lovely, refined head with tight dark almond shaped eyes with a gentle expression and low set ears. She is well-made throughout and angulated in both front and rear. She has a strong neck and good shoulders with well back sprung ribs. She held her topline on the move with correct tail carriage and action, just unlucky to come up against 1st today whose movement I preferred.

1st Shipton’s Bel Ch Heartwood Mishules All Is Possible with Calico (Imp USA) JW BW24

3-year-old bitch. She is well proportioned and has a lovely outline with a refined feminine head, correctly shaped dark almond shaped expressive eyes and low set ears. She is well made throughout with a good amount of bone, well-laid shoulders, strong neck and deep chest. She has the correct length of ribs which are well sprung. She has a strong loin and well-developed hind quarters. On the move, once she got into her stride, she covered the ground positively with a strong level topline and correct tail carriage. RBOB.

2nd Shipton’s Bel Ch Broomeece Firecracker Over Mishules BW24

An almost 7-year-old masculine male. Good amount of bone and balanced throughout. Head heavier than 1st with low set ears and lovely expression set off by dark almond shaped eyes. He has a long neck and well-placed shoulders, with a deep chest, strong loin and well-developed hind quarters. I felt the temperature affected him, as did the uneven terrain in the ring, as his movement was not as even and positive as 1st but despite this, he held his topline well.

1st Keys’s Prytaneion Atropos

4-and-a-half-year-old bitch with a lovely head and well proportioned, balanced outline. She has a pronounced stop and tight hazel eyes giving an excellent expression. She is well off for bone and is well-muscled. She stands squarely on round feet which are well fathered but is a little loose in her pasterns. She has a strong slightly arched neck, good length of rib, a firm strong loin and no sign of waistiness. She covered the ground well, despite the heat, showing a good length of stride but just carries her tail a little high. RBOB.

1st Bradbury & Preston’s SH CH Harasteorra Big Bear JW

4-and-a-half-year-old masculine dog who is really coming into his own. Shown in excellent condition and another today who gleamed in the sun. He has a balanced, well-proportioned outline where nothing is overdone. He is muscular and well boned throughout. His head has width, lovely tight hazel eyes, well placed ears and a moderate curve leading to a strong slightly arched neck. His ribs are deep and well sprung leading to a strong loin. Hindquarters are well muscled and drives his movement which is fluid with both good reach and stride. Happy to award him BOB.
