West Bromwich and Wednesbury Canine Society Open Show 13 September 2026 

Pointers – Judge Susan Wardle 

Puppy - 1st Matthews – Sonham Brimstone BP - A striking puppy on the stack, presenting graceful, flowing lines throughout. He has a pleasing, correctly proportioned head, entirely free from exaggeration, and a lovely length of neck flowing smoothly into well-placed shoulders, giving him considerable overall appeal. I particularly admired his topline and the ease and flow of his movement. His elbows sit neatly against his sides, turning neither in nor out, and he has a good expanse of second thigh that should become even more impressive as he matures and develops further muscle. He has a pleasing amount of oval bone, prominent sinew, gently sloping pasterns and well-shaped feet. Although his expression was a little uncertain today, it remained kind and appealing. He moved freely and well, carrying his tail correctly, and showed encouraging glimpses of good reach in front. With greater confidence and experience, I am sure he will continue to develop beautifully. Very well presented. 

2nd – Saunders and Newton - Tiesgol Snow Prince Charmin - Orange-and-white male, sturdier in body and overall appearance than the winner. He has beautiful head qualities, with appealing dark eyes and a nicely defined stop. Viewed from the front, he stands particularly well, with his elbows neatly tucked into his sides, gently sloping pasterns and a good amount of bone. Today, he lost out to the winner on topline when viewed in profile and on tail carriage in movement. Otherwise, there is much to admire: he is well bodied, nicely muscled and strongly boned. 

Junior 1st – Martin & Martin – Sunhouse Quintessential JW – BOB - Impressive black-and white 17-month-old male. Viewed from a distance, he presents a striking, refined outline with grace, elegance and flow. On examination, his substance was remarkable: he is rock solid, hard and in peak condition, combining beauty with great strength and clearly fit for function. His super head is free from exaggeration, with kind, dark eyes and ears fine and set well just slightly higher than the eye line. Well-placed shoulders sit above strong, oval bone and well-shaped feet. He has good width and depth of chest, a well-bodied, level topline and short-coupled, with his hip bones readily felt. A super expanse of second thigh leads to well-placed hocks that stand perpendicular to the ground, without overextension. He moved out very well with good drive; my only criticism was that the ring was not large enough to showcase him properly. It was a pleasure to award him BOB. 

2nd – Martin & Martin – Sunhouse Quintessence - Another impressive 17-month-old female, feminine has great presence. I greatly admired her elegance and beautifully balanced shape. Excellent head qualities, with clear, dark eyes and a kind, noble expression. Lovely reach of neck enhances the graceful flow of her overall outline. Nicely bodied and well ribbed back into well-coupled loins, with an excellent expanse of second thigh and good muscle tone.  Superbly presented , she moved out very well and produced some lovely strides. She now needs only to settle a little more in movement to allow her natural flow to be fully appreciated. It was simply unfortunate that the males and females had to compete against one another today. 

3rd – Saunders and Newton – Corotine Velvet Tuxedo 

1st - Post Graduate – Angus & O’Neil – Tenshilling Catch The Wind - An upstanding, sturdy orange-and-white male with considerable overall appeal and strength. He has a strong, robust head that remains free from exaggeration, with a pronounced occiput, dark eyes and balanced proportions—the distance from eye to nose equalling that from eye to occiput. His fine, well shaped ears are set high, just above the level of the eyes. He has a good return of upper arm, with elbows sitting neatly against his sides. His chest is deep and broad without extending beyond the elbows, and he is well ribbed and bodied, flowing gracefully into well-coupled loins. A strong, muscular second thigh leads to correctly positioned hind legs and hocks set perpendicular to the ground, without overextension. He moved with an easy, precise footfall; I would simply prefer a better tail carriage on the move. 

2nd – Saunders and Newton – Corotine Velvet Tuxedo   - Pleasing male of good proportions is beginning to fill out well into his framework.  Good head qualities, clean clear dark eyes.  Defined stop, good kind expression.  Stands well over his front with nice amount of body and bone.  Well shaped feet and gently sloping pasterns.    Good expanse of second thigh.  Moved out well just lacked the impulsion of the winner. 

Open  - 1st Martin and Martin – Sunhouse Black T’square One A.i RBOB  - A lovely black-and-white female who exudes quality. Clear, dark eyes and a beautifully kind expression and excellent head qualities, enhanced by an appealing air of aloofness. Excels in static balance and has a very good return of upper arm. Her chest is deep and broad without extending beyond the elbows, well-shaped feet with pleasing oval bone and gently sloping pasterns. Well sprung ribs and bodied, although in my opinion, carrying a little less weight would further enhance her refined, lithesome outline. Eye-catching and endearing, she has excellent ring presence and was presented in superb muscle tone. Moved out very well, showing some far-reaching strides and strong propulsion from the rear. Once fully settled, her natural flow will be a pleasure to watch. 

2nd – Philo – Sunhouse Black is Back at Salmonmist – JW ShCEx OSW (Ai)  - A most upstanding and striking male, differing in shape from the winner and presenting a more compact appearance. He excels in static balance and has a superb head, full of depth, character and appeal. Well developed in body and substance, I would not wish to see him carry any more weight. He has good oval bone, nicely shaped feet and excellent muscular condition. A worthy recipient of his many wins. Neat and precise mover. Would like to see him cover the ground more by extending more freely in front, drive more strongly from the rear and display on the move the showmanship carriage and poise he shows so beautifully on the stack.
