DUKERIES (NOTTS) GUNDOG SHOW

It is always a pleasure to judge at this friendly Gundog show. The large rings, excellent committee and welcoming atmosphere make it a lovely show to attend, and I was fortunate to have some quality dogs to judge. Thank you to my lovely steward , it was a pleasure to share the ring with you.

CLUMBER SPANIEL

A lovely start to the day.

1st – Monaghan, Tweedsmuir Boulevardier

A very smart young dog and a quality puppy, who has excellent breed type and is particularly well off for bone. A substantial male with the correct powerful Clumber Spaniel character, without appearing coarse.

Lovely large, square-type head with a good stop and a square finish to the muzzle. Good expression and pleasing proportions to the head. Good reach of neck leading into well-laid shoulders and a strong forehand. Excellent ribcage, with the ribs well sprung back and good depth of chest.

Hindquarters are developing  nicely, with good bone and strength. Particularly liked his , round feet. Good topline and overall balance, with a pleasing compact, substantial outline.

On the move he was very good, with a free, purposeful stride and good use of his hindquarters. Good tail carriage and a very pleasing overall performance for such a young dog. A quality puppy with a bright future.

2nd – Boden, Tweedsmuir Hankypanky Among Suelynda

A very attractive feminine litter sister to the winner, and a lovely female version of the same type. I particularly liked her head and expression, with good breed character and pleasing proportions.

She has excellent substance and bone for a bitch, but importantly retains femininity and does not become overdone or lumbering. Good reach of neck leading into well-laid shoulders and a strong, well-developed rear assembly.

Good ribcage and body proportions, with a pleasing topline and overall balance. Lovely feet and good bone throughout. She has a very nice outline and carries herself well.

Moved very well with a free, easy stride, showing good coordination and drive from behind. A very pleasing bitch and a close second to her litter brother.

CLUMBER SPANIEL

Junior Dog

1st – Dronsfield, Vanitonia Spectre Of Whitbraith

A very promising young male with plenty of potential and good breed character. Lovely substantial bone and good overall Clumber type. Shown in good coat and presented well.

He is still immature through his body and would benefit from tightening and strengthening through the topline and developing more muscle, particularly through the hindquarters. At present this affects the overall balance and consequently his movement. With further maturity and conditioning, I expect him to come together much better.

Good head developing nicely for age Good neck and shoulder assembly and a useful ribcage developing. Good bone and sound feet. Hindquarters have plenty of potential and should strengthen with maturity.

Post Graduate Dog

1st – Crittenden M Malbecmogs Tiger Eyes At Clumberdor

A substantial, masculine dog, large head with a masculine expression and good overall proportions. Good stop and strong, square muzzle, giving the head the characteristic Clumber appearance.

Well-laid shoulders and a good forehand, although he does not stand quite to his advantage in front,.

Lovely level topline, which he maintains well on the move. Good ribcage with plenty of depth and body, giving him the substantial outline expected of the breed. Good hindquarters and overall balance.

Moved particularly well, with a free-flowing, purposeful stride and good use of the hindquarters. Very pleasing movement for a substantial breed. His tail was carried a little higher than I would prefer today

Open Dog

1st – Boden, Sh Ch Suelynda Kreme Della Kreme — BOB

A very well-constructed Clumber Spaniel with excellent breed type and a particularly good front assembly. Excellent shoulders, well laid and giving a very good forechest and pleasing forehand. Good bone and substance without losing balance.

Kind expression; personally, I would prefer a slightly larger head to complete the overall Clumber picture

Excellent level topline, which is held beautifully both standing and on the move. Good ribcage with excellent depth and substance, strong hindquarters and very good overall balance, super, free-flowing stride with good reach and drive, remaining level and balanced throughout. Particularly good tail carriage, carried correctly and adding to the overall outline.Best of Breed.

BRITTANY

Puppy

1st – Samardzija, Patouche Amaretto

A promising young Brittany puppy with plenty of potential. Good breed type and a lovely square outline, giving the desired compact, cobby appearance. Masculine head with a pleasing dark eye and good expression.

He is still developing through the chest and would benefit from dropping into more depth of chest and developing greater body substance as he matures. Good overall proportions and a pleasing topline. Good bone and a sound foundation for further development.

On the move he showed the characteristic short, brisk stride, with good energy and purpose..

1st – Nicholls, Sh Ch Minama Unforgettable At Stonesview (IKC) — BOB

A very nice Brittany with good overall balance and pleasing breed type. Lovely head with good breed character; slightly rounded in appearance but with good parallel planes and a pleasing expression. High-set ears, correctly carried and nicely framing the head.

Moderate neck of good proportion leading into a pleasing shoulder assembly. Good front construction, with the elbows held close to the body. Good topline and a lovely square overall outline. Good depth of chest and pleasing body proportions. Moderate, well-balanced hindquarters completing the overall picture.

The decisive factor for me was his movement. He showed the characteristic short, brisk, energetic stride of the breed, moving with purpose, coordination and good drive while maintaining his balance.

A very pleasing Brittany with good construction and excellent movement. A deserving Best of Breed.

2nd – Nicholls, Bonapartist Trooper Of Stoneview

A very good Brittany with many of the same qualities as the winner. Lovely square body and compact outline, with excellent overall proportions. Good head with parallel planes and a pleasing breed expression.

Good depth of chest and nice body substance. Good topline and well-balanced construction, with sound forehand and hindquarters. Particularly liked his square outline and overall balance.

Moved well with the characteristic brisk, purposeful stride. Very close to the winner, but just slightly less true behind today.

SUSSEX SPANIEL

Puppy

1st – Mercer, Stormacre Bark At The Moon

A promising 12-month-old male with good breed type and a pleasing overall outline. Nice head with a pleasant expression and good breed character. Lovely rich golden-liver colouring and good coat texture.

Good neck and shoulder placement, with well-laid shoulders leading into a good forehand. Good level topline and pleasing body proportions. Moderate hindquarter angulation, with good overall balance.

He is still a young dog and needs time to mature and develop through his body, chest and hindquarters. On the move he was parallel and reasonably positive. A very nice puppy with plenty to like.

Junior

1st – Mercer, Moel Wynion Of Stormacre

A very pretty young bitch with lovely character. Sweet, appealing expression and a pleasing feminine head. Good overall outline with a nice level topline and good body proportions.

Moderate angulation front and rear, giving her the characteristic outline without exaggeration. Good bone and substance, with neat, well-shaped feet. Good forechest and pleasing body development.

Tail set is a little low for my preference, but she has a lovely overall balance and good breed character. Moved well, with a sound, purposeful stride and good coordination. A very attractive young bitch.

Post Graduate

1st – Allen-Line, Bjorksatras At Deckham (Imp Swe)

A very good masculine Spaniel with plenty of breed character. Strong, masculine head with good expression and the characteristic serious yet kindly Sussex appearance.

Excellent level topline and a very good body. Particularly liked the depth of chest and the ribs well carried back, giving him the substantial body expected in the breed. Strong, straight forelegs with good bone and a very good front assembly.

Good shoulder placement and pleasing overall balance. Strong hindquarters with appropriate moderate angulation. Lovely rich colouring and good coat and feathering.

Moved very well, with a good, free stride and sound, parallel action. Maintained his topline and balance on the move.

ITALIAN SPINONE

Puppy

1st – James, Affilato Game On — BP

A lovely bitch puppy with excellent breed type and plenty of character. Beautiful head with the kindest expression, good proportions and the correct divergent planes, giving the head the characteristic Spinone appearance. Lovely nose and muzzle proportions and a very pleasing expression.

Excellent bone and substance for her age, with good overall proportions and a promising forehand. Good neck and shoulder placement, with plenty of body developing. Good ribcage and pleasing topline, although naturally a little loose at this age, as one would expect from a growing puppy.

Very good hindquarters and good overall balance. Particularly impressed with her movement; she moved freely and positively, showing good reach and drive for such a young puppy. She has plenty of quality and excellent breed character.

With maturity, strengthening through the topline, I can see her troubling the best. A very promising puppy and a deserving Best Puppy.

Junior

1st – Bovio, IIsolo Sniffed It Once

A very smart young bitch and one I liked very much. Lovely Spinone head with correct proportions and the characteristic divergent planes. Good expression and excellent breed character.

Beautifully balanced, almost square proportions with good substance and bone. Lovely harsh coat of the correct texture. Good neck leading into correctly placed shoulders and a strong, pleasing topline. Good ribcage and body proportions, with strong hindquarters completing the picture.

Excellent forehand and particularly good reach in front on the move. Moved very well, with a free, purposeful stride and good coordination. A very promising young bitch who I think will be one to watch as she matures.

2nd – Barrett, Brewnel Bar By Stowledge

A very nice male and a slightly different type to my winner. Excellent square proportions and a pleasing overall outline. Good head with characteristic divergent planes and a kind expression.

Good bone and substance with a good neck and shoulder assembly. I would like to see him develop a little more depth through the chest as he matures. Good ribcage and correct topline.

Moved very well and importantly held his topline throughout, showing good balance and a free, purposeful stride. A quality young dog with plenty of potential.

Post Graduate

1st – Culling, Lucoru Blown Over

A quality Spinone . Strong masculine head with correct skull proportions and the characteristic divergent planes. Good expression and pleasing muzzle proportions.

Strong neck leading into well-laid shoulders and a very good forehand. Excellent bone with the characteristic oval-shaped bone and plenty of substance. Well-sprung ribs and good depth of chest, giving him the substantial but athletic outline required of the breed.

Excellent topline and strong, powerful hindquarters. Good overall balance and correct proportions. Moved freely and positively, with good reach and drive and excellent coordination. A very pleasing, well-constructed Spinone.

OPEN

1st – Whittingham, Sh Ch Rubino Spinone Del Mucrone With Riccini — BOB

A stunning Spinone and an absolute pleasure to judge. Beautiful head with excellent breed character and superb proportions. Particularly liked the correct divergent planes and lovely expression.

Excellent length of neck leading beautifully into correctly laid-back shoulders. Superb forehand with an excellent forechest and very good depth and spring of rib. Strong, correct topline and lovely overall body proportions.

Good substantial oval bone and excellent feet. Balanced angulation front and rear, producing a very harmonious outline. Strong, powerful hindquarters with excellent working construction.

Movement was exceptional. He moved with great style, effortless reach and excellent drive, covering the ground freely while maintaining his balance and topline. Everything about his construction suggests a dog built to work, and he demonstrated that beautifully in the ring.

A quality dog ,excellent breed type, construction and movement. A pleasure to judge and a very worthy Best of Breed.

2nd – Coldwell, Culling, Lucara Perpetual Spring — RBOB

Another very nice Spinone who caught my eye immediately for her lovely body proportions and attractive overall outline. Very good breed type with a beautiful head and kind expression.

Excellent neck and shoulder assembly, with good reach of neck and correctly placed shoulders. Strong topline and good body proportions, with a lovely ribcage and good depth of chest. Good bone and substance without losing femininity.

Good forechest and pleasing balanced angulation front and rear. Strong hindquarters and a very good overall outline.

She is particularly pleasing on the move, being free, easy and balanced, with good reach and drive. Maintained her topline well and was a lovely dog to watch moving around the ring. A very worthy Reserve Best of Breed.

3rd – McGregor, Diggmere Marys Chi Bloom

A quality bitch with good Italian Spinone breed type and a pleasing overall outline. Good head and expression, with characteristic breed planes and good proportions.
