JUDGE’S REPORT FOR BRITTANYS, ENGLISH SETTERS, IRISH SETTERS, LAGOTTO ROMAGNOLO, LARGE MUNSTERLANDERS

I am grateful to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge at this friendly and very well-organised show. I had an excellent steward in Neil too. Sadly, no entries in Brittanys, Irish Setters or Large Munsterlanders, and the Lagotti were absent. But - what a lovely breed the English Setter is! My thanks go to the sporting exhibitors who brought their dogs for my opinion and accepted my placings with so much grace.

BRITTANYS – NO ENTRIES

ENGLISH SETTERS:

JUNIOR (1 entry)

1st – Wynne-Evans’ DROVEBOROUGH ONE LOVE, flowing outline on this 16 Mths B/B Tri B, muzzle deep & square, feminine look enhanced by dark eye with sweet expression, good length of neck into well-laid shoulders, liked her depth of body & strong topline, needs to tighten in elbow, has good length hip to hock, moved steadily & used her tail well showing off her good nature, very much the teenager but has much promise.

POST GRADUATE (4 entries)

1st – Thacker’s PERITYE FOLLOW THE SUN, eye-catching medium size 19 Mths O/B D with clean balanced outline, head is masculine lean & well-proportioned with deep square muzzle & oval skull shape, pleasing eye & expression, neck long & strong, well-angulated shoulders & enough length of upper arm, good width to forechest, plenty of depth in brisket, strong couplings & thigh, well-controlled on the move, covering the ground freely & with drive, which won him RBOB

2nd – Beasley’s LATJEATA CUP OF KINDNESS JW, 2 Yrs O/B B, exudes elegance & charm in equal measure while retaining strength all through, pretty head with desired leanness & correct proportions, lovely dark eye & expression, long strong neck leading to well-angulated front assembly, another with well-developed forechest, great depth to body, excellent width & strength in hindquarters, long hip to hock, thought her quite lovely, today just not able to match the energy of 1st on the move

3rd - D ONE LOVE

Res – Wynne-Evans’ WALSHAW LET’S DANCE FOR DROVEBOROUGH

1st – Deering’s PETTIFOX OF ROSETIMBER, eye-catching elegant appearance to this 4 Yrs O/B B, balanced & well-made throughout, sweet lean head & lovely expression in her dark oval eyes, neck is of good length & neatly set into well-laid shoulders, deep & short in body, great width & strength in thigh, well-bent stifles, made a graceful picture on the move holding her head high & using her tail really well, BOB & later short-listed in the Group.

2nd – Whittington’s CULVERWELL MAGIC TOUCH, impressive & very strongly-built 2 Yrs O/B D who is balanced from nose to tail, masculine, long & lean in head with a heart-meltingly soft expression, powerful neck, plenty of forechest, well-angulated front & rear, deep brisket with big ribs, short & strong in loin, powerful hindquarters, well-set on & carried tail, moved freely & with grace, just not quite the coordination of eventual Challenge winners.
