Dover & Deal Premier Open Show 19th July 2026

Thank you to the Dover & Deal committee for the invitation to judge at this show. It was a very busy day, and I appreciate everyone’s patience throughout. My sincere thanks also go to my fabulous steward, Steve, who stepped in and ran the ring smoothly.

Thank you to the exhibitors for the entry today. It is an honour to be entrusted with going over your dogs. Temperaments were lovely across the board, and all exhibits were professionally groomed and handled. All bites were correct, with no poor mouths noted, and many showed excellent dentition.

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing you again.

Irish Wolfhound

Class  263 Puppy (1)

1st Addington’s Daisy Star of Malkia Garden At Wolfvebrigg (IMP SVK) – An upstanding 8‑month‑old brindle female of good size, feminine profile and a long body of correct proportion for her age. She has a well‑defined, balanced head with a long skull of moderate width, small ears, and dark eyes giving a gentle expression. The muzzle is moderate and proportionate to head. Her head is feminine yet strong without heaviness. A long, clean, muscular neck flows into excellent shoulder placement. Forequarters show strong bone, straight forelegs, and gently sloping pasterns. She has a deep, wide chest, tucked belly, strong long back, and slight arch over the loins. Hindquarters are muscular with strong thighs, good stifles, and firm hocks. Harsh coat with clear brindling. Strong bones with an excellent outline, sound structure and good muscle tone. moves with ease. BPIB. RBOB.

Class 264 Junior (1)

1st Taylor & Lynch’s Pretty Dogs First Chester (IMP NLD) – A wheaten male just turned one year old, showing a clear masculine outline without coarseness. His body is slightly longer than his height, with strong bone and a balanced masculine headpiece of good strength. Strong jaw with good bite. The neck is long and slightly arched, flowing into a firm, strong topline. Forequarters are still developing, yet he already shows a deep chest and strong ribbing. Forelegs are straight with strong bone and correct angulation, matched by good rear angulation. Well tucked up, with a long, strong loin. Powerful, well muscled hindquarters and strong hocks. Large feet with strong black nails. He moved with an efficient, ground covering stride, showing reach and drive. Coat is harsh and wiry. Slightly more mature in size and substance than the younger female. While I prefer the head definition of the female puppy, however, the ruggedness, his masculinity and development at this stage impress me. BOB.

1st Falzon’s Doucai’s Principessa Xini – A 5 year old ginger female of athletic outline and feminine profile. She has a blunt wedge head with a long, chiselled foreface, parallel planes and correct proportions. Amber eyes well set and erect ears enhance alert expession. Brown nose. Clean, slightly arched neck flowing into a mature, well-developed body with correct chest width. Good angulations front and rear. Strong hocks, firm well knuckled feet, and a short, clean coat in good condition. A fully mature female showing strength, balance and correct type. Free flowing gait with good ground coverage. RBOB.

1st Panayiotis’ Ynchreenoo Gold Edition – A 6‑year‑old ginger female of clean-cut, athletic outline, commanding ring presence. Long, chiselled head with a foreface parallel to the skull, amber eyes moderately set, and high‑set erect ears giving an intelligent look. Cheeks taper to a proportionate muzzle with parallel planes and a brown nose matching coat colour. Strong jaws complement the balance and finesse of the head. Forequarters show strong bone, from a clean, long neck flowing into well‑laid shoulders. Excellent forechest with evident prosternum, deep brisket and well‑sprung ribs to elbow. Long, straight forelegs with solid pasterns. Defined tuck‑up and a beautiful topline flowing into a long loin and gently sloped croup. Tail well set. Powerful hindquarters with muscular thighs, moderate angulation and parallel rear legs. Excellent short, harsh coat in glossy condition. Graceful on the stack and fluid on the move, showing an effortless, ground‑covering stride true to breed purpose. BOB. Hound Group 1st. Reserve Best in Show. 

Rhodesian Ridgeback

The quality of entry today was excellent across the board. All exhibits had well defined and symmetrical ridges. The Open class was the most competitive. Style of head varied, but head and body proportions were generally good. Coat quality was excellent throughout, short and dense, with all exhibits sleek and beautifully presented. The males outshone the female in maturity and fitness condition today.

Class 279 Puppy (2)

1st Kapma-Saunders’ Oostblik Rivier Annan – 11 month old red wheaten, an upstanding young female with a symmetrical outline. Still developing into her frame, yet already showing good bone and strength without heaviness. Feminine head with flat skull and defined stop; ears set high and carried close. Dark eyes, giving an intelligent expression. Muzzle of good length with strong jaw. Moderately long, clean neck. Forequarters still maturing but showing good return of shoulder and strong, straight forelegs of correct length. Chest deep and capacious with well sprung ribs. Back strong and level, flowing into a gently sloped croup. Tail well set and carried neatly. Hindquarters developing well, with clean muscle tone, well let down hocks and correct angulation. Sleek, dense coat, beautifully presented. Free gait, calm and steady on the move.

2nd Ellis’ Midas Sirius-Canis Maior At Zejak (IMP POL) – 7 month old male of good size with a developing masculine profile. Head balanced and proportionate to his body, still maturing at this age. Skull flat and clean, with a clear stop and balanced planes; ears neatly set and lying close to the head. Eyes moderately wide apart and a proportionate, clean muzzle. Forequarters show good bone for his age, with parallel forelegs and moderate chest width. Chest beginning to deepen with moderately sprung ribs. Back level with a well set tail. Hindquarters showing clean muscle tone and well let down hocks. Sleek coat and presented well. Moves straight forward with free action, though still gaining coordination and strength. A promising young male showing correct development for his age, out conditioned by the winner in maturity and finish today.

Class 280 Junior (2)

1st Whitney’s Voorlooper Raadi Mosi – Upstanding red wheaten male just turned 12 months, showing a toned, athletic outline and developing masculine profile. Very handsome head, well defined and proportionate to his well‑conditioned body. Flat skull, defined stop; eyes well spaced, giving a confident expression. A deep muzzle of good shape with powerful jaws, dark nose complement his masculine head. Strong neck flowing into well‑placed shoulders. Excellent forequarters with strong bone. Chest already deep with evident prosternum and a solid, well‑sprung ribcage. Forelegs straight and true, with strong pasterns and compact feet with black nails. Level back, strong muscular loins and a gently sloped croup. Tail high set and correctly carried. Hindquarters strong with well‑defined thighs, low hocks and correct angulation. Sleek, well‑groomed coat enhancing his athletic silhouette. Moved out freely with good foot placement and powerful presence.

2nd Storey & Piehl’s Kiromol Ain’t Misbehaving (AI) – 14 month old light wheaten female of good height, slightly short in body length for a female but with pleasing leg length and strong bone without heaviness. Feminine profile with an athletic silhouette. Flat skull with well-defined head. Clean neck of good length blends into well laid-back shoulders. Forequarters show good depth and width of chest with clear prosternum definition. Forelegs straight and strong. Hindquarters still developing but balanced in angulation front and rear. Well arched feet with strong black nails. Moves out well with a steady, straightforward action. A promising young female, though I would like a little more body length, which should come as she continues to mature.

Class 281 Post Graduate (1)

1st Geeves’ Gabisa Hob Nob With the Baron – 4 year old clear wheaten male. Upstanding dog, with a good body length and a strong, masculine profile. Presents a fit, powerful silhouette. Head with flat skull, good ear set and carriage, amber eyes and a long, strong muzzle of good shape with powerful jaw; a masculine head balanced to body and supported by a clean, strong neck. Excellent forequarter development with good chest width, evident prosternum and a deep ribcage. Good shoulder return, forelegs straight and strong bone. Strong, well muscled loins and a gentle rise over the croup flowing into a well set tail. Hindquarters show good muscle definition with a good turn of stifles and strong hocks. Moves out with good speed, coming in clean and straight; a strong mature male without heaviness, showing masculinity, fitness and strength.

Class 282 Open (5,1)

1st Barnes’ Diamondridge Dreadnought JW – 3 year old red wheaten male. Upstanding dog, long in body with good height to body length proportions and a masculine, balanced head. Presents a powerful, athletic outline with evident fitness and body tone. Head with a flat skull proportionate to muzzle, defined stop, high set ears carried close to the head and eyes set moderately wide. Long, strong muzzle with powerful jaw; supported by a clean, strong neck flowing into a firm back. Excellent forequarter development with good chest width, evident prosternum and a deep ribcage with moderate tuck. Good shoulder return, straight parallel forelegs and strong bone. Strong loins and a gentle sloped croup flowing into a well set tail. Hindquarters show good thigh muscle definition, well angulated with firm, low hocks, strong arched toes. Short, sleek coat. Covers the ground with purposeful stride, maintaining his topline; a powerful male showing maturity, fitness and strength. BOB.

2nd Geeves’ Kiromol Knight of the Realm – 2 year old light wheaten male of excellent outline and quality. Well built with strong bone yet never cumbersome, showing balanced body and leg proportions. Clean, well defined masculine head with a flat skull, high set ears and a proportionate muzzle with strong jaw and clean lips. Neck of good length and strength flowing into well laid shoulders. Forequarters strong and well developed, with good chest width, evident prosternum and straight forelegs with solid pasterns. Deep chest and well ribbed body. Strong back, long loins and a tail well set and carried. Hindquarters toned, with a well turned stifle, strong hocks and correct angulation. Coat short, glossy and in excellent condition. Balanced and fit, maintaining a level back with an efficient, clean stride. Well handled. A handsome, well made dog who pushed the class winner closely. RBOB.
