HOUND GROUP – BEST IN GROUP

G1. Mrs S, Mr O & Miss E Robertson’s Soletrader Puppet Master. Exhibit No. 807, a 15 month old boy of excellent type. Correct head proportions, low set and well folded ears of correct length. Kind intelligent expression. Strong slightly arched neck flowing into strong withers and strong level back. Correct body proportions and strong straight short legs. Good angles front and back, excellent forechest, well developed broad chest well sprung ribs and well ribbed back, strong well muscled hindquarters with well rounded buttocks, correct high set tail well carried up on the move. Harsh coat. Excellent movement, free easy extension and drive covering the ground well. Very deserving of winning Best in Group, and I was thrilled to find out he went on to Best In Show.

G2. Miss V Woodcock’s Abbotsoak Miss Honey, A good sized 19 month old, white and chestnut Ibizan bitch of excellent type. Exhibit No. 944, excellent long wedge head, strong slightly convex muzzle, nose protrudes beyond the teeth, amber almond eyes, erect large thin very mobile ears, alert girl. Strong long neck carrying the head proudly, set into a level topline. Correct body proportions. Pin bones prominent. Long low set tail, coming off slightly sloping croup. Correct depth chest well above elbows, flat ribs, slight angulation in front with correct fill, and a little more angulation in the rear, correct length of leg to depth chest. Free light springy movement.

G3. Mrs C Akehurst’s Tendrow Down to The Wire at Bramdach JW. Exhibit No. 854, Dachshund (Wire-Haired).

HOUND GROUP – BEST PUPPY

G1. Ms A & Mrs M Hepner Theodorou & Hepner Chapman’s Clipperdown Red Baron. Exhibit No. 858. A very promising six month old, very well put together and balanced Wire-Haired Dachshund boy presenting a lovely outline. Displays all the breed hallmarks: conical head of correct proportions, well rounded ears framing the head, scissors bite with full dentition, confident expression, a lovely strong neck flowing into strong withers and a level topline, sufficiently developed keel with dimples, excellent angulation front and back, slightly inclined front legs with strong bone, stands with straight tight feet. Correct body proportions, deep chest with good spring of rib, well ribbed back, strong broad back. Good ground clearance. Excellent driving movement: front and back legs move parallel correct distance apart from shoulder/hip. 

G2. Mrs MK Addington’s Daisy Star of Malkia Garden at Wolvebrigg (Imp Svk). Exhibit No. 880, a seven month old brindle Wolfhound bitch of excellent size, and very promising type. Long and strong head for a youngster, scissor bite, full dentition. Friendly expression. Strong neck flowing into strong withers and strong topline slightly arched over the loin. Well laid shoulder, I would prefer a better return of upper arm. She has some forechest and fill in front. Good deep chest, strong bone for her age. Correct slightly longer body proportions. Broad well developed hindquarters for her age. Long tail to beyond hock coming nicely off her moderately sloping croup. Harsh coat. Free and easy movement, with very sound hocks. A lovely young girl who just needs to mature.

HOUND GROUP – BEST VETERAN

I was blown away by the high quality, soundness, and health of my Ibizan and Basset hounds age group winners. For my Best Veteran in Group, I selected the Ibizan Hound, and I was thrilled to find out later that he also went Best Veteran In Show!

A.V. Hound Veteran: Special Veteran (7-9 years) (11,2)

1. Miss V Woodcock’s Ch Abbotsoak Any Dream Will Do. Exhibit No. 943, a lovely large white and chestnut 8 and a half year old Ibizan dog of excellent type, with all the hallmarks of this breed. Strong masculine head, correct proportions, amber eye, strong muzzle and large nose. Large thin, well set and carried very mobile ears. Strong long slightly arched neck. Correct body proportions, correct moderately steep set shoulder, sufficient fill in front. No great angulation in the rear. Correct depth of body well above the elbow, and slightly sprung ribs. Stands with long straight legs, good bone. Moves with good reach and drive, light on his feet, ground covering strides. A lovely sound dog in great condition, whom I felt was well up for the job.

2. Mr A & Miss A Keepence & Keyte’s Redcap Northern Lights over Alandobel VW. Exhibit No. 822, an 8 and a half white and tan Beagle bitch of good size and very good type. Very good head, correct proportions, large well rounded ears nearly reach the muzzle. I would like a slightly darker eye to give softer expression. Good neck, flowing into strong withers and level back with high set tail. Good angles front and back, with forechest. Well developed chest with good spring of rib. I would like a slightly more compact body. Stands with straight legs, good round bone, tight feet. Moves with reach and drive holding tail up well. 

3. Mr S J & Mr L O Middleton & Gilhooly’s Treviskey Spice of Life Stormida. Exhibit No. 924, Whippet.

4. Mr J & Mrs S Hicks’ Nuthouse Queen of Clubs JW. Exhibit No. 904, Rhodesian Ridgeback.

A.V. Hound Veteran: Special Veteran (10+ years) (3,2)

1.Mrs C Allchorne’s Ch Nelgus Thyme Bomb JW ShCEx VW. Exhibit No. 813, a good sized 10 year old tricolour Basset dog of excellent type and substance. Excellent head, correct proportions, strong muzzle with good flews, dark eye with some, not excessive, haw giving solemn expression. Low set ears, well folding in and reach just beyond the nose. Loose skin around the head. Strong neck flowing into good withers and level strong broad back. Correct body proportions, well rounded ribcage, extends well back, no flange, strong well-muscled loin, good ground clearance. Excellent angles front and back, well developed forechest fits neatly into crook, short powerfully boned legs, loose skin on legs, sufficiently tight feet. Moves powerfully and freely around the ring with good reach and drive and the tail held out and up in a gentle curve. A fit and very sound dog in great condition. An absolute credit to his humans.

1.Mrs C & Miss M Hills’ Rangali Anna With Shimmeree. Exhibit No. 791, just on a year old, red wheaten girl. Pleasing head, domed skull, correct proportions, correct low set ears, with good folds, reaches the muzzle, slightly pointed, soft coat and darker than body colour. Slightly short arched neck, flowing into strong withers. Body proportions too long for my liking and topline rises to the rear. Good well rounded chest, good angles front and back, good forechest, stands with front legs a little close and feet point out, hind legs stand true. Body coat harsh and flat. Moves with reach and drive, clean going and coming, tail up on the move. RUBOB.

2. Mrs C & Miss M Hills’ Rangali Anna With Shimmeree. Exhibit No. 792, a 4 year old red wheaten girl, slightly larger than first placed. Head is of correct proportions but I would like a broader and slightly better domed skull. Good oval sufficiently dark eyes. Neck is a little too short for my liking. Correct low set ears good folds reaches to the nose. Chest too broad and deep for her length of leg. her back roaches over the loin into a steeper croup and low set tail. Harsh coat, fairly flat lying. She moves clean coming and going with some reach and drive.

1. Mrs S, Mr O & Miss E Robertson’s Dyfrgi’s Britsh Hart with Soletrader (Imp Swe). Exhibit No. 795, a 2 year old red wheaten dog of excellent type. Strong head, correct proportions, strong nose. Correct low set ears, with good folds, reaches to the nose. Strong slightly short arched neck flowing into strong withers and level topline. Excellent body proportions, Good angles front and back, strong forechest, correct depth of body to length of leg. well developed chest, with good spring of rib and well ribbed back. Well boned straight legs. Strong short loin, slightly sloping croup with the tail coming nicely off the back. Harsh flat lying coat. Correct clean brisk movement with reach and drive, tail up well on the move. A lovely dog. BOB

2. Mrs J & Mrs A Hayes’ Rangali Yum Nut. Exhibit No. 789, a larger 2 and a half year old dog, not as well put together as the first place. The head for me is a little too large for the length of body, I would like a slightly broader skull and the muzzle to not taper as much. Correct low set ears, good folds, not quite reaching the nose when drawn forward. Good body proportions, Moderate angles in front and good angles in the rear. Harsh coat . Needs better developed forechest, front legs turn out excessively. Moves with moderate reach and drive, topline is a little roached on the move. 

AUSTRALIAN TERRIER

1. Mrs A Golby’s Bareve Relight My Fire at Shadymore. Exhibit No. 951. A 20 month old blue and tan boy of excellent type. He stood alone, but what a dog – good size, lovely outline, strong terrier head and prick ears, alert. Excellent substance, good balanced angles front and back, lovely forechest, strong neck flowing into strong withers and level back. Strong hindquarters. Good bone, correct high set and carried tail. Springy free movement with good reach and drive, holding the tail up well and maintaining a level back. Correct harsh coat. Strong blue colour with rich tan in the right places, nice ruff, has a slight blue thumb mark on the cheeks we look for in Australia in a blue dog, softer topknot, and has the black nose leather extending a little along the muzzle bridge. DEERHOUND

1. Dr S Helps’ Beardswood Yseult. Exhibit No. 874, a good size 16 month old brindle bitch of excellent breed type. Elongated head, aquiline nose, thin rose ears, soft expression strong neck, lovely flowing outline with good arch over the loin drooping a long low set tail, deep chest, good tuck up. Moderate angles in front with good fill, strongly developed broad hindquarters for her age, well muscled, correct long from hips to hock. Good blade bone. Dense harsh dry coat. Free and easy movement with long strides, clean coming and going. BOB

1. Mr D & Mrs S Spring-Arnold’s Hyndsight Changes. Exhibit No. 875, a 2 year old brindle bitch. Not as well developed as the Yearling Bitch. Head not as elongated, bone not as strong as the Yearling girl, and arch over the loin is not as well developed. Deep chest, broad hindquarters, not quite the free movement of the Yearling girl. A.V. IMPORTED BREED REGISTER HOUND

1. Miss J & Mr K Whitlam & Barber’s Cunninghams Buena Vista at Pokitaru. Exhibit No. 947, a 14 month old Black and Tan Coonhound bitch of very promising type with a lot of maturing still to do. Balanced head, large broad nose, I would like more depth to the lower jaw and stronger development of flews, round dark eye. Excellent ears, low set with good folds reaching well beyond the nose. Strong well arched neck flowing into strong withers and fairly level topline. Body proportions a little longer than high. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, good forechest. Good angles in the rear and strongly developed hindquarters for her age. Chest reaches nearly to the elbow, sufficiently broad, good spring of rib for a youngster, I would like a flatter underline. Sufficient bone, stands with straight legs, feet need to tighten. Moves with reach and drive, clean going, but a little loose coming.

She moves well with light springy movement. she is not as strong in body as Exhibit 944: similar depth of chest but not the fill in front and she is not as well ribbed back, with a longer loin, reducing chest capacity likely to impact on working ability. RUBOB.

A.V. HOUND

1. Mrs L Webb’s Madelion Lady Dementer. Exhibit No. 785, an 8 month old very promising Afghan girl. Good size, correct square build, elongated wedge head of correct proportions, large nose, dark eye, strong lower jaw. Strong arched neck , strong upright head carriage. Good angles in front with some fill, good angles in the rear, strong hindquarters for her age. Strong topline, prominent hipbones, moderate sloping croup with low set long tail to the hock, held with a ring at the end. Good flat bone, stands with straight legs. Deep chest nearly to elbow, slightly sprung ribs, underline rises moderately to the rear. Movement is powerful, easy with good reach and drive holding the tail up. 

2. Mrs S Coote’s Kelsomaid Black Dragon. Exhibit No. 837, nearly 9 month very promising black Miniature Dachshund Smooth. Correct conical head of correct proportions, dark round eye with kind expression, well set large ears well rounded. Strong neck flowing into a strong withers and level topline of correct length. Good angles in front , Sufficiently developed keel for her age, with dimples. She stands with front legs slightly inclined supporting her ribcage, feet a little turned out. Well developed angles in the rear. deep body with good flat underline, sufficient ground clearance. She moves with reach and drive, front and back legs move parallel correct distance apart from shoulder/hip. Tail held out on the move.

1. Miss C E Miller’s Alkira Beau Golden Girl. Exhibit No. 823, a 14 month old lemon and white strongly built beagle bitch. Correct head, feminine , good proportions, slightly domed skull, well set large ears reaching to the nose, rounded at the tips. Sufficiently dark eye, soft expression. Strong slightly arched neck flowing into strong withers and level topline and high set tail. Good angles front and back, deep chest to the elbow with good spring of rib, has sufficient forechest. Stands straight with good round bone, tight feet. Moves with reach and drive holding tail up well. 

2. Miss N Hunter’s Katiesue's Attraction at Salatini. Exhibit No. 919, a good sized nearly 14 month brindled fawn whippet bitch, still maturing. Lovely head, correct proportions, dark oval eye giving soft kind expression, with some chiselling below the eyes, thin rose ears. Long and elegantly arched neck flowing into strong withers. Body proportions too long for my liking. Well laid shoulder, upper arm is too short so does not cover the deepest part of the chest when standing. Chest needs to be let down to the elbow. She stands with straight legs of moderate blade bone, down to oval well knuckled feet. Fairly strong hindquarters, I would like a better angled stifle. Good tuck. Lithe muscling. Long low set tail. She moves with some reach and drive, and I feel would move with better extension if gaited at the correct faster speed for her. 

3. Mrs S Coote’s Kelsomaid Blazing Commet. Exhibit No. 838, Dachshund (Mini Smooth).

4. Ms M Thomas’ Bowdonia Elphaba. Exhibit No. 938, Whippet.

L (8,4)

1. Mrs C Wilson’s Boughton Busy Lizzie for Hamiltonhill. Exhibit No. 941, a two year old cream whippet bitch. Good head, feminine, I would prefer a darker eye to soften the expression. Thin rose ears well set. Good neck flowing into strong withers. Too long in body proportions, due to long loin. Moderate lay of shoulder, but upper arm is short. Slightly overloaded shoulders. She has some fill in front and chest deep to the elbow. Slight arch over the loin. Good angles in the rear. Stands with straight legs and oval well knuckled feet, I would prefer a little stronger blade bone. Moves freely with reach and drive. 

2. Miss J Adderley’s Tambyssa's Tawny Sky (ai). Exhibit No. 893, a 4 year old light wheaten Rhodesian Ridgeback girl. A good sized girl , squarely built, she needs to be slightly longer than high. Fair head, I would prefer her skull to be a little broader to match its length, and the muzzle to be a little longer. Round eye, well set ears. Lovely strong slightly arched neck flowing into level topline. Well laid shoulder and a little short in upper arm, although she does have a good forechest. Chest needs to be let down a little more to the elbow. Well sprung ribs. I would prefer the underline to be flatter before rising to the rear in a gentle curve. Good angles in the rear. Excellent ridge, symmetric with two well-formed crowns behind the shoulder, I would prefer the ridge to extend nearer the haunch. Moves freely with good reach and drive and clean coming and going.

3. Mr J & Mrs S Hicks’ Nuthouse Mastermind. Exhibit No. 903, Rhodesian Ridgeback.

4. Mrs Corinne Ward-Blower’s Dajean Surely Keifer at Willowmist. Exhibit No. 872, Dachshund (Mini Wire).

O (6,4)

1. Mr J & Mrs S Hicks’ Nuthouse Going for Gold JW. Exhibit No. 902, a 3 year old red wheaten Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch. A good sized girl of correct slightly longer body proportions. Good head, sufficiently broad skull with balanced muzzle. Round eye, well set ears. Good length of neck. Well laid shoulder, I would prefer a better return of upper arm. She has a little forechest. Good depth of chest to the elbow, moderate spring of rib. Good deep underline. Fair topline, rises a little to the rear, due to moderate angles in the rear. Stands with straight legs well boned, sufficiently tight feet. Excellent symmetric ridge, with two well sized symmetrically placed crowns, I would prefer the ridge to extend nearer the haunch. Moves with good reach and drive and a good stride. 

2. A Hepner Theodorou & M Hepner Chapman’s Clipperdown Good Grief. Exhibit No. 857, a six month old very promising Wire Haired Dachshund Bitch. Lovely conical head, round eye, high set well rounded ears, scissor bite. Good neck flowing into strong withers and strong level back. Correct body proportions. Excellent 90 Degree angles front and back. Good keel and chest development for age. Tail comes nicely off very slightly sloping croup. Harsh coat. Good ground clearance. Stands straight in front with slight crook, well boned legs. Moves with good reach and drive.

A.V. SPECIAL BEGINNERS HOUND (11,4)

1. Mrs L Giles-Wyatt’s Clarismore Crown Prince JW. Exhibit No. 821, a 2 and a half year old tricolour large Beagle dog. Strong masculine head of correct proportions, well set well rounded large ears nearly reach the nose. Overall shape and body proportions of this dog are correct, but too heavily built and too much substance for this breed. Moves with reach and drive, with tail held up on the move.

2. Mrs S Huynh’s Laakso Moerketid. Exhibit No. 885, 6 months old promising Norwegian Elkhound dog. A very young and immature dog, who was very distracted in the ring. Correct head, well set and pricked ears, dark eye with spectacle markings, strong muzzle and jaw for age. Correct body proportions , good neck, topline rises to the rear. Good bone. High set tail carried well curled on the back. Didn’t settle and too distracted to move correctly.

3. Mrs S Coote’s Kelsomaid Up in Flames. Exhibit No. 839, Dachshund (Mini Smooth).
